Aftercare
Your new tattoo can take anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks to completely heal, depending on its location, your skin type, and aftercare used. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me immediately! This aftercare information is based on years of experience and research, but is not intended to be a substitute for consulting with a physician.
Supplies
Liquid soap- we recommend Castile soap (also known as green soap or Dr. Bronners). A non scented hand soap (such as Dial or Softsoap) is also acceptable.
Ointment- Aquaphor or Redemption you may purchase in studio.
Fragrance free water based lotion- common tattoo safe brands are Lubriderm or Aveeno. Do not use products like shea butter or coconut oil (they are too oily and can cause beak outs).
Sunscreen- once the tattoo is completely healed, sunscreen will protect it against fading and discoloration. Only use SPF 30. Any SPF higher than 30 is only intended for use on ears and nose.
Hygiene
Do not touch your tattoo unless for cleaning purposes, and always wash your hands before you do. Do not wear tight or restrictive clothing, and absolutely NO swimming pools, hot tubs, baths, ponds, oceans or submerging your tattoo fully of any kind. Showering is OK. Stay out of direct sunlight.
Standard Bandaging
Wash
Wash your tattoo immediately after removing your bandage with unscented liquid soap. Use clean hands to wash your tattoo, do not use sponges, washcloths, luffas ect.
Rinse and Pat Dry
Once your tattoo is rinsed thoroughly, pat dry with a clean paper towel.
Apply Ointment
Apply a thin layer of the moisturizer recommended to you; Aquaphor or Redemption.
You want it to look shiny, NOT wet.
Saniderm
Bandage
Blood, plasma, and excess ink will pool inside the bandage and may make the tattoo look smeared or smudged; this is completely normal.
If leaking occurs, remove the bandage.
Remove Bandage
After 3-5 days, remove the bandage in the shower using a mild soap and warm water.
Be gentle with the bandage when removing it.
